ACT ON INSTINCT

Titelstory: Hardy BlechmanDear Readers,

welcome to issue No. 20 of stw2d which means we have a little five year anniversary.
Thanks for supporting us so far, we are looking forward for further years to come! This issue's cover theme 'act on instinct' is taken out of the interview with cover headliner and camo expert Hardy Blechman who has a keen sense to follow his instincts in establishing his creative output inside his brands. But let us first take a closer look on what an instinct is and how can somebody say that following an instinct is good or bad? The basic instinct is given, but we as human beings have to learn, think, act or act different than the time before or act different to do something different than others. People often think that they stand above the animals because of their ability to think fast, reflect experiences and this way to make a complicated decision. That's somehow right, but on the other hand at the same time we often do not recognize that we also still act instinctively. Instincts aren't rudiments of the human history of development or the primitive one-dimensional part of our brain, instincts are necessary to survive and they make us react faster. Sometimes it's better to act more animallike on instinct like eagles, lions, snakes, buffalos, gazelles, vultures, dolphins, chameleons, ants, bees, elephants, rats or other funny little creatures. The human being is literally known for adapting certain animal behaviors or biological properties as we say he is strong like a horse, slick like a fish, wild as a lion or busy like bee. And these instinctive qualities make us different from each other, are the reason for our very special personality and individuality. So often it's better to follow your own not deliberate instincts than always looking upon others, what they do and how they react because thus you will become a weak fake and a blind copy. You have to listen to your feelings and follow your instincts towards your goals but at the same time you should not ignore likeminded people in this world who share the same ideas and emotions while hunting for whatever, fame, money, pride, self-realization, shoes, shirts, toys, art or the latest denims.

So please consider our current anniversary issue as a proposal to feature as many positive topics out of the streetwear related information jungle and as an honor to some people out there in the fashion world who constantly follow their own instincts; instincts that became their background.
