NATHAN FLETCHER "All of a sudden I was a pro surfer"

When it comes to surfing, most people start dreaming about the ocean, the beach and beautiful girls in lovely bikinis. Yes, it is a dream to catch a wave and feel the power of nature, chilling around at the beach, while looking at some nice asses walking by. Did you ever try surfing? I did and after gulping two litres of salt water and landing with my face in the sand, my personal dream was kind of shattered because none of the girls took notice of me. Perhaps they did… but that’s how it is; you practically need to grow up in the water, you have to exercise very hard and need somebody who will help you out here and there. Of course, a certain amount of talent is required, too.

Nathan Fletcher was born in June 1975 and grew up in San Clemente, California,… okay, near the beach. Whereas his grandpa was one of the most important people in the surf biz, his father Herbie is not only a myth in surfing but helps to create new legends with his own surf shop in San Clemente, called The Herbie Fletcher Surfshop. In addition, Nathan’s older brother Christian surfs in a similar style as he does and was one of the first people who launched the aerial revolution. I mean what can I say; this Nathan Fletcher had pretty good conditions to become one of the craziest surfers of the world. However, some years ago he made a move to escape this family tradition and exchanged his surfboard for two different types of boards. He got deeper into skateboarding and snowboarding until the ocean called him back for a surf contest. The sponsors were stoked by his style and all of a sudden he found himself becoming a surf pro. Now it is not exaggerated to say that he is one of the most progressive surfers of our times and also for the future of surfing. With distinctive elegance and his unique style Nathan pops out of the waves and thus wins most of the spectacular air contests. Okay, just look at this - how can I call it? - bomb drop from a cliff. This guy must be crazy!

Regarding his futuristic surfing techniques, it just seems logical that the action sportswear brand Analog Clothing is one of his most important sponsors, for his radical style matches perfectly with Analog’s own. When he signed a multi deal with them last year, Analog celebrated this milestone with the introduction of an exclusive line of boardshorts which they added to their existing clothing line of technically focused street and outerwear.

For the future, Nathan’s ingenuity and his unique artistic contributions will creatively contribute to the company’s manifesto of rider-driven design. “I’m looking forward to designing boardshorts and other products with him,” says Analog’s creative director Tyson White. “He’s a technical freak – both in and out of the water.
Who’s better to test and design a pair of boardies than Nathan Fletcher?” Dreams
come true. Hang loose…
