MAZDA vs. QUIKSILVER bring some colors to the streets

And here we go with another interesting project in the recent jungle of collaborations. This time the car industry – namely Mazda – joined forces with the all over lifestyle brand - namely Quiksilver – to release a limited edition of Madza 5s. The Mazda 5 is an all-new vehicle and a true family car, which is said to forever change the affordable family travel. With room for six passengers and dual sliding rear doors it offers a level of versatility never before seen in a sport hatch vehicle. And it’s all wrapped in Mazda’s legendary engineering, style and fun-to-drive performance. The visual design is done by Quiksilver art director Natas Kaupas and his team Randy Noborikawa, Scott Richards and John Paul Altamurano. Its style is not too futuristic but shows distinctive colourways which give the car a very special outlook. Natas, who is also a wellknown skater, is a skilled graphic designer who regularly collaborates with Randy and Scott.

Their works are shown in places throughout Southern California. The famous design team did a great job turning these cars into moving paint bombs; they worked with multiple layers and textures and even used a suspension system which hovered above the vehicles while they were working on them. In addition, they utilized all kinds of colours imaginable – spray paint, oils, house paint, enamel, acrylic and coffee – to apply funny motifs like skulls, faces, board short prints, organic patterns and corporate visuals on the cars. Other samples of their work can be seen at www.dosplumas.com.
